The 47-year wait is over.
The Denver Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat in five games to win the NBA championship for the first time in team history, prevailing 94-89 on Monday night. Since joining the NBA in 1976, this is the team's lone championship.
How we got here: Denver won three of their four games in the Finals by double digits, so it wasn't even close in the end.
- Game 2 was their first postseason home loss, but they bounced back by winning two games in Miami.
- In Game 3, Jamal Murray and Nikola Joki established themselves as maybe the best NBA tandem by each scoring a triple-double of 30 points.
- something that had never been accomplished in the history of the NBA.
- After winning 53 games during the regular season, the Nuggets were the top seed in the West for the first time.
- They were 10-1 at home and had a 16-3 overall record going into the postseason.

The mystery: Don't overlook the participants. Game 4's top scorer, Aaron Gordon, scored 27 points. Bruce Brown scored 21 points off the bench in the fourth quarter when Joki was struggling with foul trouble.
